recent updates on KOODANKULAM SPEAKS

Five organizations of the survivors of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal today condemned the brutalities unleashed by Tamilnadu police and Rapid Action Force on peaceful demonstrators against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power project. The organizations have appealed to Bhopal citizens to join the candlelight vigil tomorrow to express solidarity with those opposing the destructive project.

The organizations stated that over half a million people are still suffering from the damages wrought by the Bhopal disaster of 1984 and the damages caused by a nuclear disaster would be many times greater and would be felt for several generations.

Bhopal Gas Peedit Nirashrit Pension Bhogi Sangharsh Morcha, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Stationery Karmchari Sangh, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Purush Sangarsh Morcha, Bhopal Group for Information and Action and Children Against Dow Carbide said that the unsafe nature of the nuclear project at Kudankulam was evident from the government’s reluctance to make the “Safety Analysis Report” and the “Site Evaluation Report” public despite directions from the Chief Information Commissioner.

Holding her responsible for the death of one protestor and injuries suffered by many, the organizations condemned the volte face of the Tamilnadu Chief Minister who had earlier supported the campaign against the nuclear power project.

The organizations said that the Candlelight Vigil will be held tomorrow at GTB Complex near New Market tomorrow at 6 PM.

  1. definitely not peaceful protest They are blocking refusing to negotiate and compelling their ideas without negotiation.
Please read Mahathma Gandihi’s books on Nonviolent struggle. They have no public sympathy
